Who We Are

AYb mission

AYB (All-Star Youth Basketball) began in 1997, and for the past 24 years, we have maintained the mission to provide a safe, supportive, recreational basketball program for boys and girls living in the city of Arcadia, and surrounding areas, who currently attend 3rd Grade through 8th Grade.

AYB strives to provide opportunities for sports education, personal growth and motivational development for our young athletes. Overall, the program is designed to:

  • Develop an understanding of and appreciation for sports education
  • Enhance each player’s individual skills within the game of basketball
  • Promote sportsmanship and teamwork while also acknowledging each individual’s contribution to their team
  • Provide a competitive environment for league & tournament play
  • Build lasting bonds between the players, parents and coaches
  • Provide opportunities to meet high school and college coaches, learn new techniques and skills, encourage player-parent mentorship, and to promote the spirit of community!
  • Have a little fun!!!

AYB provides your children with the highest quality program possible. Over the last few years we have expanded and grown the program to include both a Fall and Spring league, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th grade divisions, skills clinics, and more.  Although these expansions have been enthusiastically embraced by our community, they are still new and are always considered "works in progress". Therefore, if you have suggestions on how to improve a particular aspect of AYB or have questions about why something is run a certain way, please feel free to reach out to us.

With that said, we do want to make it clear that at no time will we (or any of the AYB staff/volunteers) tolerate abusive, aggressive or offensive behaviors from our league parents. We all understand how passionate and invested you are in your children's well being and growth within the program. We are too. But that does not mean that anyone has the right to be disrespectful or rude at anytime. If you are unable to adhere to this request, we will first require that the offending parent be absent from all activities involving AYB (including practices, games, ceremonies and so forth). If the problem persists, we unfortunately will have to terminate your child's participation within AYB (both current and future years). While this may seem extreme, we must remind everyone that this is a youth program that centers around respect and promotes attitudes of positivity, encouragement and support. If our parents, volunteers and staff cannot embrace these important life strategies, then how can we expect our children to?

PLAYERS AND PARENTS/SPECTATORS CODE OF CONDUCT

Most important is to demonstrate good sportsmanship and to have fun!

  • Players and parents/spectators shall respect all coaches, game officials, parents, teammates and opposing players at all times.
  • Players and parents/spectators shall not engage in any derogatory or demeaning comments toward officials or opposing teams/players/coaches.
  • Players and parents/spectators shall not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or spectator such as booing, taunting, mouthing off, etc, or using foul language or gestures.
  • Players shall attempt to attend and actively participate in every practice and event scheduled. If they cannot make it, they must inform their coaches.
  • Players shall listen attentively to their coaches.
  • Players shall be a team player and be patient with their teammates
  • Players and parents/spectators must respect the rules and regulations regarding cleaning, maintenance, safety, and refreshments in the gymnasium.
  • Parents shall remember that all coaches are volunteers! Respect the fact that they are willing to give so much of their time to your child.
  • Allow the officials to have the final decision during games.
  • Parents should not come onto the court unless instructed to do so by a game official or league representative.
  • Parents should not address and/or approach the scorer's table in an aggressive manner or use profanity.
  • Officials, scorekeepers, and AYB staff have the authority to remove a player, coach, or parent/spectator from a game and can declare the game a forfeit due to unsportsmanlike conduct. If poor sportsmanship behavior continues, the offending player, coach or parent/spectator may be suspended from future games or removed from the league.
  • Have fun!
  • Remember this motto: Let the referees ref, the coaches coach, the players play, and the parents cheer.
  • Don’t lose sight of why you signed up for AYB...you’re here to learn and develop basketball skills and to have fun playing the sport. AYB is not about winning at all costs.

If you have suggestions, questions or concerns about something in AYB, please reach out to us. Please also give us the appropriate amount of time to do our due diligence and follow up regarding your inquiry. AYB serves many families throughout the year and although we try to make everyone happy, it is not always possible. So please be patient and know we are trying to work with you and your children the best we can.

We are always striving for success here at AYB and we apologize if there are some bumps that need to be smoothed out along the way. We hope you know how truly grateful we are to all of you who help us make AYB the first rate youth athletics program that it is and will continue to be!

Thank you all again and we look forward to seeing you on the court!
